Council’s Arts Officer, Josie Kent, said music, visual arts, history, writers and craft groups were all represented at the workshop.

"The workshop used our Arts and Culture Plan as a guide for discussion," Ms Kent explained.

"Led by John Smithies, Director of Cultural Development Network Victoria, the group began by brainstorming ideas and then broke into smaller groups to work on specific areas of the plan.

"We now have a number of priorities to work on expanding arts and culture opportunities in Bass Coast," Ms Kent continued.

These include

  • Improving communication, networks and connections between artists, groups and other art bodies
  • Including arts and culture in economic development and planning,
  • Working towards a public gallery
  • Involving artists in the planning of open space
  • Continue to celebrate our cultural heritage.

"As a result of this workshop, we have planned our first social networking session for June this year, all artists of all disciplines are invited to be involved," Ms Kent said.
