Department of Primary Industry (DPI) Catchment Management Officers, doggers and landholder representatives of the Gippsland Wild Dog Management Group recently attended a two-day wild dog workshop at the Parks Victoria Cabins at Cape Conran, in east Gippsland.

Over the course of the workshop, experienced doggers passed on their collective skills to the Fire Recovery doggers, employed as part of the fire recovery response of the State Government.

Those attending also had input into the Draft Gippsland Wild Dog Action Plan. Participants also heard from speakers on departmental firearm policy and maintenance, poisons use, and wildlife interactions with pest animals. John Turnbull, Wild Dog Coordinator for the North East region, commented on the Wild Dog program in the North East.

Gippsland Wild Dog Coordinator, Vaughn Kingston said the members of the Wild Dog Management Group are fully supportive of this process and would like to pass on their thanks to all those who participated in the workshop.

"This is the first of these type of get-togethers where knowledge transfer can occur, and new skills and techniques are imparted to our staff involved in the wild dog program," Mr Kingston said.
