Churchill Pool repairs on target for completionChurchill and Monash Leisure Centre staff are gearing up for a busy summer with the repairs to the Churchill Pool currently on target for completion by the end of December. By Latrobe Shire Council - 10th November 2004 - Back to News Latrobe City Mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said that repairs to the pool roof are almost complete and the focus of maintenance works had now shifted to the pool itself.
"The roof sheeting and skylights in the pool area have been replaced, and scaffold has been erected in the pool for the internal ceiling work, which is now close to completion," Cr White said.
"The pool construction joint repairs have been completed and the pool shell will be painted once the ceiling works are finalised. Repairs in the water reception well and the design of the chemical dosing and control system have also all been completed."
Churchill and Monash Leisure Centre Acting Manager, Ray Wood, said that with Latrobe City Council resuming management of the leisure centre back in July, gradual improvements have been made across all areas to ensure that patrons receive the best fitness experience possible.
"The leisure centre has also recently purchased a range of new electronic Johnson cardio fitness equipment, including electronic bikes, state of the art treadmills, air rowers and a new x-trainer, designed for a total body workout," Mr Wood said.
"If the new Johnson equipment is anything to go by, members are going to be in for a treat with a complete fit-out of the gym planned for early December. Equipment that was quickly becoming outdated will be replaced with new pin-loaded equipment, bringing the gym up to modern standards."
The Churchill and Monash Leisure Centre will continue to offer a range of services and activities after the refurbishments have been completed, including gym, aerobics, crèche, squash, netball, volleyball, basketball and a senior and teen gym program.
"If people are not keen on going to the gym then they can try one of the many group fitness classes that are on offer at the leisure centre. Group fitness classes are held in the morning from Monday to Friday and in the evenings from Monday to Thursday. There is also a circuit class on Sundays," Mr Wood said.
"All classes are suitable for the beginner right through to the more advanced participant. Members can enjoy the ‘body‘n’bar’ session, which gives all the benefits of a gym workout in a class atmosphere, or alternatively participate in a total body workout with the ‘step attack’ session, which instructors guarantee will get the blood pumping," Mr Wood added.
