Comment On Inverloch’s DesignInverloch residents and visitors are encouraged to comment on the Inverloch Design Framework which recommends protecting the ‘seaside village’ character of Inverloch, retaining the existing town boundaries and upgrading the town centre. By Bass Coast Shire Council - 11th September 2009 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council’s Planning and Environment Director, Hannah Duncan-Jones, said the aim of the Inverloch Design Framework is to ensure any development in Inverloch is well planned and fits the character set out in the Framework.
"Council adopted the Inverloch Design Framework in 2003 and at that time said it needed to be reviewed every five years," explained Ms Duncan-Jones.
The Framework has been reviewed and it is now open for public comment and feedback.
"There has been substantial growth in Inverloch since 2003 and Council needs to look at what is driving this growth, whether this growth in sustainable and whether it should continue to accommodate this level of growth," Ms Duncan-Jones said.
"The Framework proposes to keep existing town boundaries and any future growth should be due to ‘filling’ within these boundaries.
"This is one of the most important aspects to help protect the character of Inverloch which is what so many residents and visitors love about the town," continued Ms Duncan-Jones.
The Framework review also brings Council documents in line with State Government planning policies, including the Victorian Coastal Strategy.
"The Framework also suggests upgrading the town centre in Inverloch and retaining both the main recreation oval and Thompson Estate Reserve," outlined Ms Duncan-Jones.
"We are holding a community information session on Tuesday, 8 September from 6.00pm to 8.00pm at the Inverloch Community House, corner of Williams Street and Wilson Avenue.
"I encourage anyone who is interested in the future of Inverloch to come along, ask questions and give their feedback."
The draft Inverloch Design Framework is currently available for community comment until Friday, 18 September. Copies are available for viewing at the Wonthaggi and Inverloch Customer Service Centres, at www.basscoast.vic.gov.au or call Council on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) for a copy to be sent out.
