Young people to have theatre experience

Wellington Shire Council is giving young people the opportunity to give youth theatre a try. The Council has received funding from VicHealth to undertake a 6 month Youth Theatre project.

As part of the project, participants will develop and perform a play that focuses on the experiences of young people in the Wellington Shire.

The first phase of this project is a series of "Roving Workshops". Workshops will be held this weekend in:

Stratford - Saturday 27 May at the Eye2Eye Theatre (12noon – 5pm)

Heyfield -Sunday 28 May at the Memorial Hall (10am – 3pm)

Maffra - Monday 29 May at the Memorial Hall (5pm – 9pm)

These workshops will explore a range of theatre skills and will introduce young people to the project. They are stand alone sessions and those attending do not need to commit to the six month project.

"It is an opportunity to have a go, if people decide to continue with the project they will have the opportunity to attend a writing and script development camp held in June.

"A second camp focussing on theatre skills, casting and play rehearsals, is available if they want to be involved in those as well," said Mr Roberts.

Transport assistance will be provided for those attending the camp and future sessions.

The resulting production will be performed at a number of local venues.

For further information on the project, please contact David Roberts or Pauline Rathnow at the Wellington Shire Council on 1300 366 244 or email davidr@wellington.vic.gov.au
