Nationals' historic gains
Mr Littleproud said, "Importantly, Mr Walsh took regional Victoria with him on the journey, leading to outstanding results in the 2022 state election, where The Nationals gained an Upper House seat and won Mildura, Shepparton and Morwell. This led to an impressive 11 seats."
"The Victorian Nationals team proudly now has more women than men, all who were elected on their own merit. Thanks to his courage and conviction, The Victorian Nationals can now head to the next state election with great confidence," Mr Littleproud said.
Walsh leadership legacy
Mr Walsh was first elected in 2002 and became Leader just after the 2014 election. Mr Littleproud added Mr Walsh has always stood up for agriculture and the farming community, having previously worked in horticulture and with the National Farmers' Federation.
"Mr Walsh has fought relentlessly against water buybacks in the Murray-Darling Basin and against Labor's anti-farming agenda. Above all, Mr Walsh is someone I call a mate and he has been a pleasure to work with."
"His contribution is significant and The Nationals thank him for his leadership. I also welcome and congratulate Danny O'Brien as the new Nationals Leader for Victoria and look forward to working with him," Mr Littleproud said.
