From Bondi Beach to Latrobe City, Trent Maxwell, or Lifeguard Maxi, will be visiting various libraries and leisure venues during the school holidays to talk about his books, water safety and more! Maxi is the youngest ever professional lifeguard to work at Australia’s world-famous Bondi Beach.

Trent "Maxi" Maxwell, a professional lifeguard, book writer and a great role model for our young people

Starting as a 16-year-old trainee, his 14-year career is well documented on award-winning Australian TV show Bondi Rescue. He then became a firefighter with NSW Fire and Rescue. In 2018, Maxi added the title of published author to his credits, releasing his Maxi the Lifeguard book series for children aged eight to 12. The books educate and entertain, and are full of valuable life lessons and water safety messages.

Role model for the kids

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Cr Sharon Gibson said his appearances would be a treat for primary school children during the school holidays. "What a brilliant role model for our children! Maxi has grown up on our screens, from teen to professional lifeguard and firefighter."

"His contribution to the community in his home state is highly valued, but his wider contribution to the safety and mental health and wellbeing of children and young people everywhere, through his books and talks, is invaluable. We’re delighted to welcome him to Latrobe City, and to host one of the sessions at our new Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre. What an appropriate backdrop for his talk."

Mental health and well being

In this special presentation by Latrobe City Libraries and Latrobe Leisure, Maxi will talk about water safety, his writing and his passion for mental health and wellbeing in young people.

You can buy copies of his books 'In Deep Water', 'The Stormy Protest' and 'Beach Battle', plus his new picture book for younger children, 'Beach Rescue'.
