Recycle your batteries at Council’s offices
Council’s waste facilities accepting used batteries to recycle.
Bass Coast Shire Council now has Battery Recycle Banks at all of its Customer Service and Visitor Information Centres. Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari said that recycling batteries is the best way to keep our community and environment safe.
Recycle or bring used batteries like AA, AAA, C, D, 9 volt batteries and button cell batteries in the waste facilities for free
Keep batteries off the bins
Cr Tessari said, "Batteries should never be disposed of in bins. The most common cause of fires in garbage trucks and at recycling processers is batteries that have been disposed of in kerbside bins, If your batteries end up in landfill, they can potentially harm wildlife and affect surrounding soil or waterways – another good reason to keep them out of your bins."
Council’s service centres to accept batteries
You can now recycle the following types of household batteries at Council’s Customer Services Centres in Wonthaggi, Cowes, Grantville and Inverloch and Visitor Information Centres in Newhaven:
- AA and AAA
- C and D
- 9 volt batteries
- Button cell batteries
Alternatively, Council’s waste facilities accept all of these batteries for recycling free of charge, as well as mobile phone, computer and laptop batteries, power tool batteries and car batteries. "All of the batteries Council collects are recycled safely and importantly, kept out of landfill. Please don’t ever put batteries in any of your kerbside bins," Cr Tessari said.
For more information on how to dispose of your waste in Bass Coast, visit recycle batteries or contact Council’s Waste Services Team on 1300 BCOAST (226 278) or (03) 5671 2211.
