Literacy and Numeracy Program at GippsTAFE

New program aims to provide training which assists unemployed people to make a real improvement in communication skills

By Eimear McNelis - 29th August 2002 - Back to News

GippsTAFE’s Community Access Centre is offering a Language, Literacy and Numeracy Program (LLNP) in the Moe and Morwell area.

LLNp is funded by the Department of Education, Science and training and aims to provide training which assists unemployed people to make a real improvement in their language, literacy and numeracy skills.

LLNP provides up to 400 hours of basic adult language, literacy and numeracy training, which is designed to lead a measurable improvement in language literacy and numeracy competencies of participants.

The training is undertaken on a two day per week basis and is conducted in small, friendly groups by experienced and fully qualified adult language, literacy and numeracy trainers.

The program is tailored to meet the individual learning needs of each client, and is delivered face-to-face in small class settings.

Poor language, literacy and numeracy skills have been shown to be a major barrier for getting and keeping a job. Improving your reading and writing skills are also a great way to boost your confidence.

The program is fully funded; there is no charge to participants.

For more information about LLNP please contact your local Centrelink or employment office, or you can call GippsTAFE’s Community Access Centre on 5127 0277.
