Consultation On Wonthaggi/Dalyston Structure Plan Begins

Bass Coast Shire Council recently held a series of preliminary consultation meetings to gain input from key stakeholders regarding the Wonthaggi and Dalyston Structure Plan.

By Bass Coast Shire Council - 26th May 2005 - Back to News

Meetings were held with community members, business representatives, government departments such as Vic Roads, CFA and the Department of Sustainability and Environment, servicing authorities such as Westernport Water and the South Gippsland Water Authority and Bass Coast Shire Councillors.

Council Planning and Environment Director, Andrew Mason, said the turn out from the community was excellent, with around 50 people attending both the business breakfast meeting and public meeting in the evening.

"Common themes and issues were raised by all parties and the contributions from those who attended were invaluable.

"Some of the main discussion topics included employment, education, the relationship between Wonthaggi and the coast, a recognised need for more land supply in Wonthaggi, and services and facilities for both the elderly and youth," Mr Mason advised.

Mr Mason said the issues raised in the consultation meetings would be considered for input into the first draft of the Structure Plan.

"We are currently in the early stages of the project. It is envisaged that the draft Plan will be available for public comment within the next three months," said Mr Mason.

The Plan will assess the current strengths and weaknesses of Wonthaggi and Dalyston and give specific direction to the future growth and development, urban design, servicing and infrastructure capacity of the towns.

The Wonthaggi and Dalyston Structure Plan is being prepared by Coomes Consulting in conjunction with Council and the community.

Enquiries should be directed to Council’s Senior Town Planner, Lisa Dunlop, on (03) 5671 2211 or (03) 5951 3311.
