Volleyball Australia Women’S Training Camp To Be Held At Latrobe Leisure ChurchillLatrobe City will once again play host to the Volleyball Australia women’s annual high performance training camp in December. By Latrobe City - 23rd November 2011 - Back to News The camp will this year will be hosted at Churchill Leisure Centre from Saturday 10th to Thursday 15th December.
Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Darrell White said that he was delighted to see the training camp being held in Latrobe again this year.
"This is the second consecutive year Volleyball Australia, Latrobe Volleyball Association and Latrobe City Council have worked together to bring this important event to our city.
"The fact that yet another elite sporting team has chosen to utilise Latrobe City facilities really shows the first class, high quality sporting venues that Latrobe has to offer
Camp Coordinator and Junior Women’s coach, Bill McHoul, explained the schedule for the event and said that the teams and Volleyball Australia were looking forward to their visit.
"The camp will also see the start of the Youth program. Over sixty young athletes will be put through their paces in this initial camp, including several locals that will be chasing their dream to represent Australia in the Asian Youth Championships in May 2012.
"The senior women’s program will have a development camp having just returned from the Asian Championships in Taiwan, in preparation for upcoming competition opportunities in 2012. The team will also play an exhibition match on the afternoon of December 11 and they look forward to putting on a good show for the local Latrobe City community.
"We are very much looking forward to creating a positive impact on the community and look forward to participating in local activities including a volleyball clinic for juniors and other community activities wherever we can," Mr McHoul said.
"Sport is such an important part of community life, and we are really looking forward to hosting such a great sporting team here in Latrobe and giving the local community a chance to see world class athletes in action. We look forward to welcoming Volleyball Australia back to Latrobe City in December." Cr White concluded.
