Further Works At Maryvale Reserve

Following the recent removal of pine trees at Maryvale Reserve, Latrobe City Council officers will be carrying out further works to clean up and landscape the site.

By Latrobe City - 16th May 2012 - Back to News

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Ed Vermeulen, said that the works would be undertaken in two stages over the next seven weeks, weather permitting.

"As with any large scale works such as the removal of the pine trees there is a certain amount of clean up works to carry out. With favourable weather conditions the clean up should be undertaken reasonably quickly.

"We hope the residents in and around the area, along with users of the reserve, will be patient whilst the works are undertaken," Cr Vermeulen said.

Ward Councillor, Cr Bruce Lougheed, said that the first stage of works would involve burning the wood piles on the northern fence line of the reserve.

"We will have an excavator, fire unit and staff, both day and night on site during the burning process. The local CFA has been advised of the planned burn offs.

"The second stage of the works will involve spreading mulch along the northern boundary from the current fence line to the back of the drain for the full length of the reserve. A single row of eucalypts trees will then be planted in place of the trees removed.

"Further works to the north of the reserve are planned for the next two years as part of the Morwell north-west development. This area will undergo quite a transformation and the resulting development will see mixed lot residential areas, a neighbourhood centre and open space creating a desirable place to live and visit," Cr Lougheed concluded.
