Day 2 features the Warragul Farmers Market, West Gippsland Arts Centre, and Bandolier Brewing. By news@gippsland - 4th October 2023 - Back to News Warragul is your new favourite short-break destination. Featuring grass so green it looks like it's straight out of Ireland and surrounding farmland that'll have you thinking you're in a pastoral novel, Warragul is full of heritage buildings, cutesy streetscapes and fresh, open spaces. On your way there, pop through the charming old rail towns of Nar Nar Goon, Garfield and Bunyip. With local produce, wineries and historical sites, this road trip is perfect for gourmets and history fans alike.
Start your day at Warragul Farmers Market, a haven for fresh produce and artisanal goods. Visit the West Gippsland Arts Centre for exhibitions and enjoy Coffee Vibes On your wayOn the road to Warragul, head through Nar Nar Goon, the 'mural town of Victoria'. This place is full of attention-grabbing artworks that depict local life in the 1920s - think old-timey mechanics leaning against their vintage cars, or a kid buying chocolate from the milk bar. See if you can spot them all. Next up, venture to Bunyip and pay a visit to Biddy Marth's cafe for a menu of hearty brunches, homestyle lunches and a huge range of delectable baked goods. Set up in the old butchers from the 1920s, Biddy Martha's is a local institution. Garfield retail adventureAfter you've had a slice of cake (or two - we wouldn't blame you), head to Garfield to indulge in some retail therapy. Take a stroll through this gorgeous village, drenched in yesteryear vibes, and be sure to browse the shops - elegant Impodimo Gift & Living has limited-edition and handmade gifts and homewares, boutique SOHL Store has a beautiful range of on-trend ladies' clothing, then drop by The Spirit Orb for some soul-cleansing crystals and holistic gifts. After your day of journeying to Warragul, you have to try the new restaurant in town - Messmates. We could rave about these guys all day, but let's just say they are the coolest new kids on the block, with an exciting menu based on local produce with a European flavour.
Don't miss Warragul newest restaurant, offering an exciting menu featuring local produce with a European twist, a culinary gem in town Around WarragulFirst up, check out the Warragul Farmers Market, where the early bird catches the best produce, artisan breads, preserves, plants, cheese and meats. We're in the heart of farming country here, so you know the produce is going to be next level. You might want to stock up for your pantry at home while you're at it. Pop over to the West Gippsland Arts Centre to check out the latest monthly exhibition and grab a coffee at the social enterprise cafe, Coffee Vibes. Check out their event calendar and lock in an evening of song, dance or comedy. Book a table at Bandolier Brewing for an afternoon of ales and American-style BBQ. Not only do they have one of the coolest logos around (save you having to look, it's a skeleton on a penning farthing bike), Bandolier also offers a menu of craft beers and smoky ribs that you'll be fantasising about for months to come.
End your trip on a high note at Cannibal Creek Winery, where you can enjoy French-inspired wine and delectable cuisine in a cosy countryside ambiance On your way backWhile all getaways must come to an end, you can stave off the sadness with a visit to Cannibal Creek Winery. This beloved vineyard offers French-inspired wine and delicious food in a relaxed country setting. The contemporary space is immediately comforting with a large wood fire, verandah and picturesque views over vine-clad hills. The menu is seasonal but expect favourites like mushroom arancini or braised ox cheek - each dish is listed with a suggested wine pairing. What better way to wrap up the weekend than with a scrumptious lunch and a couple of bottles of world-class wine to take home. Pictures from Visit Gippsland website.
