Local Teen Campaign Cover Heart in the Night, a photo by Ventnor teenager, Camille Tragear is the new poster image for the be inspired Arts Festival 2011 which runs from 1 to 31 May. By Bass Coast - 4th March 2011 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council’s Arts Officer, Josephine Kent, said artists were invited from across Gippsland to be the ‘face’ of this year’s festival.
"It’s a fantastic achievement by Camille," said Ms Kent.
"For her work to be recognised in a Gippsland-wide competition is a credit to her and shows she has a lot of talent and potential."
Camille, a Year 11 student at Wonthaggi Secondary College, said the image of the sparkler made heart was taken at a friend’s birthday.
"I love the idea of capturing a moment in time," said Camille. "This is a photo of my boyfriend just playing with sparklers at a friend’s birthday.
"I was taking photos for a school project and wanted to test what it might look like."
The result will be seen across Gippsland, as Camille’s photo graces the cover of the be inspired 2011 brochure and other promotional materials.
"I’m excited about my picture being used," said Camille. "I want people to see you don’t have to be a certain age to get your work out there. You can appreciate the work of lots of people, regardless of age or background.
Camille is offering other young local artists the opportunity to also show their work.
"I’m currently setting up an exhibition at the moment running from 4-10 April where nine young artists will exhibit their work at the Wonthaggi Theatre," said Camille.
May 2011 will see the third be inspired Arts Festival - a Gippsland-wide celebration of the region's creativity.
Like previous festivals, the month of May 2011 will be jam-packed with exhibitions, events, music, performances, workshops, installations and general Gippsland 'art-making'.
This year there will also be six key events under the artistic direction of Neill Gladwin.
