Meningococcal C Immunisation Demand Leads To Additional Sessions

Latrobe City Council will conduct more immunisations throughout February

Latrobe City Council will conduct more Meningococcal C immunisation sessions throughout February due to the enormous response to the vaccination sessions held in January.

Children between one and five years of age and adolescents between fifteen and nineteen years of age, can be vaccinated free of charge at sessions to be held 25 February in Traralgon, 26 February Morwell, and 27 February in Moe.

Parents/Guardians of children under 18 years are required to complete a consent form at a Council Service Centre in Moe, Morwell or Traralgon, while any 18 and 19 year olds may register in person at a Council Service Centre. An appointment time for the vaccination will then be allocated.

Latrobe City Council’s Health Services Manager, Mr Andrew Mackintosh, said that Council was thrilled with the community’s positive reaction to the immunisation sessions.

"A total of 2054 Meningococcal C vaccinations were administered throughout January. The overwhelming response from the community and continued enquiries concerning the availability of the vaccine, have led to Council conducting three additional Meningococcal C vaccination sessions," Mr Mackintosh said.

"The immunisation sessions being conducted are part of a $41 million Commonwealth Government initiative to vaccinate as many people as possible between one and nineteen years of age against Meningococcal C," Mr Mackintosh explained.
