A ‘ Win Win OpportunityIs your organization always scrabbling for ways to finance new projects and resources? By South Gippsland Shire Council - 24th September 2004 - Back to News Council’s innovative fundraising Community Raffle could be the answer to your worries.
Last year forty local community groups raised over $22,000 through the process of selling raffle tickets for exciting prizes, and 85% of this amount was then returned to the groups to fund their projects.
"It’s such a simple concept and its beauty is that it directly rewards individual effort," commented the Mayor, Cr Heather Bligh. " For example, the Meeniyan Pony Club was able to pay for riding instructors, the Leongatha and District Table Tennis Club raised funds to refurbish their Club rooms, and the Leongatha Golf Club was able to re-carpet the Ladies change rooms."
As well, the Toora Hall Committee refurbished their kitchen and helped out the Toora Family History group to install some shelving.
"It was fantastic to see people feeling empowered to make the changes they wanted in their facilities and communities, it really is the best maximisation of Council’s dollars," added the Mayor.
So, how does your group participate?
Your group needs to be a non-profit community or charitable organization serving South Gippsland, and will need to provide evidence of ‘declared status’ from the Victorian Gaming Authority prior to receiving tickets to sell. For every dollar raised, 15% will be retained by Council to cover administration costs and GST, and the remaining 85% goes back to your group.
With the fabulous prizes that are up for grabs, selling the tickets is an easy and pleasant task. Who wouldn’t take a $2 punt to win a world travel voucher? And help your cause into the bargain?
Here’s what you can win!
1st prize: World Travel Voucher $8000 2nd prize: LG Home Entertainment System $3200 3rd prize: Thrifty Link Hardware voucher $1000 4th prize: 12 month Family Cinema Pass $375
The raffle will be drawn on 9th March 2005 so there’s five months to raise funds. Don’t waste a moment… call Alycia Stivic on 5662 9271 or Lew Wilson on 5662 9259 to get your group involved.
