Churchill Football Club To Receive Lighting Upgrade

Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe has committed $100,000 to improve lighting at Gaskin Park Reserve in Churchill if a Coalition Government is elected this month.

By Russell Northe - 18th November 2010 - Back to News

Mr Northe said the proposal, which will upgrade current lighting facilities on the main oval, will provide enormous benefit to the Churchill Football Netball Club and the Churchill community in general.

"Improved lighting will help to encourage more Churchill residents to take up the many sport and recreation opportunities available on the Gaskin Park precinct.

"It will also potentially enable community and other events to be hosted at Gaskin Park of an evening or night time in a safer environment for both participants and spectators alike.

"This could potentially enable the Churchill Football Netball Club to host night time football matches which have proved to be incredibly popular in the Gippsland region. This is simply not possible currently due to the state of the existing lights.

"I can personally attest to the fact that existing lighting on the main oval is inadequate and the monies provided by the Coalition for this project will be of enormous benefit to those utilising the Gaskin Park precinct.

"Our sporting clubs deserve to train and participate in first class facilities, and improved lighting on the Churchill main oval will help ensure the ongoing success of clubs such as the Churchill Football Netball Club.

"The Churchill Football Club dates back to 1888, when it was previously known as Hazelwood, and it has a vast history and great success over the years, and I believe this upgrade will benefit the quality of the players and coaches training time during our colder and darker months.

"I want to ensure that our community members are kept safe at all times; that is my highest priority. I believe this upgrade will give our community members a sense of safety which is necessary when trying to enjoy being outside and being active.

"It is also imperative that we encourage our youth to participate in sporting and recreation pursuits and I hope this initiative will provide an incentive for greater participation rates in Churchill and District.

"This improvement will ensure that the Churchill sporting community will benefit greatly for many years to come."
