Victorian Supermotard Championship racing into MorwellThe first round of the Victorian Supermotard Championship will be held at Kernot Hall in Morwell on Sunday 31 August 2003. By Latrobe City Council - 28th August 2003 - Back to News Events Latrobe, Janiene Ayre said that spectators will be entertained by some of Australia's best Supermotard riders, as well as a carnival fun atmosphere.
"Morwell's own stunt rider, Allan Morrison will entertain and amaze in between races, a sound system will keep up the excitement between the thumping of the thumpers and for the children, there will be a jumping castle," Ms Ayre said.
"There will be an opportunity to check out the bikes, as well as watching the prestige, sport/light, junior and non-expert all-powers classes taking on the circuit before the Supermotard Pros get their chance to race," Ms Ayre said.
"Of the riders competing, Adam Altham, leader of the S2 Australian Championship will have his first hit out for the year on his Subway Yamaha WR450F against KTM hot shot, Greg Moss. Moss will have at his hands the exotic and very expensive SMR660 and will have another KTM and S1 Australian championship fighter, Bathurst's Graham Cheney to contend with," Ms Ayre explained.
"Altham, fresh from his USA showing, is keen to show up these riders on his lesser capacity bike. Moss has won races this year but has failed to finish consistently. Cheney has been nipping at the heels of winners and is out strike first blood," Ms Ayre continued.
"Thrown in are a heap of hotshots and a non-expert race, which will give up and coming riders a chance to learn how to lead races," Ms Ayre said.
"This Championship will allow riders with different capacities to compete against each other. The bikes will range from 250cc four strokes to 650cc.
The technical circuit will place an emphasis on rider skill and not necessarily outright horsepower," Ms Ayre explained.
"The back car park area at Kernot Hall will make a great spectacle as riders will skid and slide around the circuit in full view of spectators, and the dirt section will include jumps, berms and technical sections. The pit area will be covered and totally accessible to the spectators," Ms Ayre added.
"Cost for adults is $5 and children under 12 accompanied by an adult enter free. Gates open at 7.30am and the racing runs from 11am to 5pm," Ms Ayre concluded.
