By news@gippsland - 13th June 2023 - Back to News Wellington Shire Council today welcomes news that Late Councillor Malcolm Hole has been awarded a posthumous Order of Australia for his service to local government, and to the community. Cr Hole was a tenacious and passionate Councillor, offering steadfast leadership to his community up until his passing in 2021. This prestigious honour is a testament to his dedication and contributions to Wellington Shire. 
The posthumous Order of Australia reflects late Councillor Malcolm Hole's impact, dedication, and inspires future local leaders Community champion honouredCr Hole's venture into local government began 23 years ago, when in the year 2000 he first stood for election to Wellington Shire Council. Cr Hole was re-elected an incredible seven times, testament to his popularity and admiration amongst his community. Throughout his active 21 years as a Wellington Shire Councillor, Cr Hole was a fierce champion for the work of Heyfield and the wider community. Cr Hole's Order of Australia recognition acknowledges his work across local government, including the Municipal Association of Victoria and Rural Councils Victoria, National Timber Councils Australia, Timber Towns Victoria, the Association of Apex Clubs, and the widespread impact he had on the local timber industry in Heyfield. Cr Hole's legacy continues to be felt throughout the local community, as the Heyfield native timber industry continues to grapple with its early closure, and what this will mean for hundreds of timber families. Cr Hole was much more than a Councillor; he took on many different leadership roles across his lifetime. Cr Hole's biggest accomplishment, and one he spoke to often, was having the pleasure of raising his children and grandchildren. "Cr Hole was an exceptional individual, and his legacy will remain fixed in the fabric of our community.
