Sporting Hall of Fame Nominations Open and Exhibition ToursCalling for Nominations: Legends and members categories. By Portal Admin - 16th September 2018 - Back to News The Latrobe City Sporting Hall of Fame is now calling for nominations for both ‘legends’ and ‘members’ categories for revealing, as part of Council’s 2019 Australia Day celebrations. To refresh your memory on our current inductees, a travelling exhibition is currently touring our local libraries, service centres and leisure centres. Dates and locations are available on Council’s website.
Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Darrell White OAM, said that recognising the wealth of sporting talent in our City provided inspiration for our up and coming athletes.
"We’ve celebrated our sporting history in this way since 2006. To date there have been more than 20 inductees across both the legend category and the member category. Until 10 October, we will be taking nominations to add to that number," Cr White added.
‘Legends’ are athletes who have achieved sporting excellence by competing at the highest level of their chosen sport. ‘Members’ are those who have made a significant contribution to their chosen sport as officials and referees, coaches and trainers, sport medicine, psychology or sports administration.
"Our City has a proud history of producing elite participating athletes along with professionals who work in the sports field. The touring exhibition pays homage to our existing inductees, publically honouring their successes. We hope that by seeing the achievements of those who have paved the way, we can inspire a fresh round of nominations and add to our growing list of acclaimed local sporting heroes.
"If you know of someone who has played at national or international level, or has made a substantial ‘off-field’ contribution to elite sport in their chosen field, please visit our website and download a nomination form. Forms can also be collected from our service centres and libraries," Cr White said.
Visit www.latrobe.vic.gov.au/SportingHallofFame to find out more about the touring exhibition, the nomination criteria and to download the forms.
Nominations close 10 October. Inductees will be presented during a special ceremony at Kernot Hall on Australia Day next year.
