Popular romance author to visit Traralgon LibraryJanet Woods, an award winning romance author, will be giving a free talk at the Traralgon Library on Wednesday 31 August from 7.30 pm. By Latrobe City Council - 18th August 2005 - Back to News Latrobe City Libraries Program Officer, Noeline Grayden said that Janet Woods had written eleven novels and will present a talk on ‘The Journey of a Novel’.
"The presentation will take people through the different stages of a novel from a writer’s perspective. It will cover all areas from start to finish. Both writers and non writers will enjoy this session because it gives them some knowledge of the preparation that goes into a book," Ms Grayden explained.
"Janet Woods was born in Dorset in the south west of England but now lives in Western Australia. She began writing when she reached her late forties and now it is her passion. The settings Janet uses in her novels take her back to her Dorset roots. The majority of her forty plus short stories have been published in international popular magazines, and on two occasions she has been awarded ‘The Bronze Quill’ for short story writing. Janet prefers to write popular fiction, especially novels traditionally enjoyed by women," Ms Grayden said.
"The genre which has proved the most popular and successful for Janet, is also the area in which she enjoys working in the most, that of human relationships. Many of her publications encompass historical saga, modern relationships, historical and contemporary romance and fantasy –areas which are distinct in content and style," Ms Grayden explained.
Ms Grayden added that In 2002, Janet’s first novel, ‘Daughter of Darkness’ won the mainstream section of The Romantic Book of the Year, a competition run by The Romance Writers of Australia and judged by readers.
"Those who love author talks, or would like to hear more about novel writing, are warmly welcomed to our third cultural event for the year. A night with Janet will enthral you with her charm, her wit and her modern outlook on life," Ms Grayden concluded.
The session starts at 7.30pm on Wednesday 31 August at the Traralgon Library which is located at 13 Breed Street. A light supper will be served.
