Wellington welcomes Nylex-led drive to address youth exodus

Wellington Shire Council is supporting a Nylex-led drive to help arrest the long-running exodus of young skilled people from Sale to the bigger cities – many drawn by the lure of potentially better job opportunities.

Nylex has a significant operation in Sale and is keen to tackle what is a widespread youth exodus issue affecting rural areas across Victoria. This is hampering the potential growth of businesses and local economies because of the shortage of highly skilled and educated personnel.

In an attempt to help start a reverse of this cycle Nylex has organised Nylex Week (19 - 23 April), to sow the seeds of a new united effort involving local businesses, schools and other organisations to tackle the exodus head-on.

Workshop seminars have been arranged with students from Gippsland Grammar School, Catholic College Sale and Sale College. In addition Harold Krawitz, a leading marketing consultant to 50 leading Blue Chip Australian Companies, will be conducting two business seminars being held in Sale on Wednesday and Thursday evening. Also, Bob Skilton, Triple AFL Brownlow Medal Winner, will be guest speaker at a key luncheon supported by Wellington Shire Council and hosted by its Mayor Jeff Amos on Friday.

Said Mayor Jeff Amos: "We are delighted to be able to support this very worthwhile initiative, which comes from a significant contributor to the local economy. It’s great to see Nylex taking on board the needs of our businesses and youth community in this way."

"Sale is an ideal place to target the youth exodus. Not only does it have great business and economic potential, assisted by the high calibre schooling and training available to young people locally, but it can offer a quality of lifestyle that many others in Victoria would envy."

AFL X-Men spokesperson Ron O’Dwyer (tel: 0417 576 078) is co-ordinating the week’s activities on behalf of Nylex.
