Latrobe Invites Expressions Of Interest For Japanese Day

Expressions of interest are invited from community groups and businesses to take part in Japanese Day in October.

By Latrobe City - 12th September 2007 - Back to News

Latrobe City mayor, Cr Tony Zimora, said that Japanese Day is one of Latrobe City’s most popular annual events, aimed at allowing the community to experience Japanese culture and entertainment, as well as finding out more about council’s sister city relationship with Takasago.

"This year’s Japanese Day is the fourth such event and the annual experience has become a much looked forward to activity on the Latrobe City events’ calendar. It’s a day for people of all ages to get together to enjoy Japan’s vibrant culture," Cr Zimora said.

Latrobe’s international relations officer, Yuki Poole said that Japanese Day would once again be packed with exciting Japanese food and craft stalls as well as feature spectacular entertainment such as the Japanese drumming performance.

"Japanese Day is a great opportunity for local businesses with products or services relevant to Japan and the Japanese way of life, to run a stall and promote their business in the community.

"It’s also an opportunity for community groups to run a fundraising activity, such as a Japanese noodle stall, to raise funds for their group and promote their objectives in the community," Ms Poole said.

"Whether run by a business enterprise or community group, the stalls need to be relevant to Japan and the Japanese way of life, and provide visitors to Japanese Day here in Latrobe with a worthwhile Japanese experience," Ms Poole stressed.

"This year will also be very special, as we have eleven members of the Takasago based ‘Latrobe Friendly Society’ coming here from Japan to participate in our Japanese Day festivities," Ms Poole added.

Japanese Day will be held at Kernot Hall, Morwell on Sunday 14 October 2007 from 10.30am to 3.30pm.

Application forms for exhibitors and community organisations are available from council’s service centres, or can be downloaded from the website on www.latrobe.vic.gov.au.
