15th Anniversary of the Polish Club

Wellington Shire Council is putting on public exhibition proposed amendments to the Wellington Planning Scheme, as it looks to rezone land in Yarram and surrounding townships to address the demand for additional housing.

By Wellington Shire Council - 7th February 2005 - Back to News

These amendments (known collectively as C24), together with illustrative maps, will be on exhibition from Thursday 10 February through to Thursday 17 March at the Yarram Service Centre, 156 Grant Street and the Sale Service Centre, 70 Foster Street. A copy of the main relevant documents will also be on the council’s website www.wellington.vic.gov.au from 10 February.

C24 proposes parts of Yarram, Devon North, Woodside and Greenmount/Buckley’s Island Road for further residential development and is strongly based on recommendations made in the council’s Yarram & Environs District Report (published in August 2004) which was drawn up taking on board the findings of extensive consultation with local residents.

Any comments on the amendments need to be sent in the form of a written submission to:

Jason Pullman
Strategic Planner
Wellington Shire Council
Port of Sale Civic Centre
70 Foster St (PO Box 506)
Sale Vic 3850

He can also be telephoned to answer any queries on 1300 366 244.

The deadline for submissions is 17 March.

All property owners and occupiers directly affected by the proposed amendments, which include rezoning, should have received a letter and map relating to their particular area and are encouraged to feed back their views to the council.

Said Wellington’s Chief Executive Officer, Lyndon Webb: "This rezoning process has been lengthy, due largely to complex legislative planning procedures that we are duty bound to follow. We appreciate the cooperation and invaluable input that has been provided by the local community over what is a significant planning issue, with the final outcome set to provide major long term housing development benefits for those living in Yarram and district.

"We are keen to get the amendments to the Wellington Planning Scheme in place as soon as possible. We would ideally like to submit these to the Minister for Planning during spring 2005 for final approval. However if an independent planning panel needs to be appointed by the Minister, this would necessarily extend the process.

"Our proposals are designed to ensure appropriate development in the area into the long term future, which properly addresses the needs of the local community as a whole and meets the pressures of housing demand."
