Council officers have developed a questionnaire for families and child-care services, which is presently being circulated by volunteers. Data from the survey will also be used to help the Shire’s ‘Best Start’ project, auspiced by the Departments of Human Services and Education & Training and co-ordinated by Kilmany Family Care, which aims to improve access to services for families with young children in the Rosedale area.

The questionnaires are anonymous, with all information being kept confidential and used only for the planning of future services.

Wellington Shire Mayor John Jago encouraged residents to complete the surveys, which will enable the Shire to gain a broad picture of the needs of children and families in the district.

"We will use the data collected from the questionnaire as the basis for a formal application for funding a Children’s Service Centre for Rosedale, which if successful will be a wonderful resource for young families", he said. "The views of local residents involved with small children will help us to put together a comprehensive proposal which will reflect the community’s opinion of its needs."

"Also, this data will be of great importance to the ‘Best Start’ project, which is looking at better ways of delivering services to Rosedale’s young children. "
