Cape Woolamai Coast Action Provide New Steps

Coastcare proudly witnessed the completion of a new set of timber steps at a recent working bee

By Carol McCormack - 19th August 2002 - Back to News

Cape Woolamai Coast Action/Coastcare proudly witnessed the completion of a new set of timber steps at a recent working bee. The steps are located in the Cape Woolamai foreshore reserve on the Cronulla Road foreshore access track.

Beachgoers now have much easier access to the beach. Prior to the steps being installed, beachgoers had to traverse the steep, eroding slope.

The steps were constructed by Mabcon Pty. Ltd. using funding obtained by the Coast Action. Planning and additional funding was provided by Bass Coast Shire Council.

"In their brief history, Cape Woolamai Coast Action/Coastcare have had a major impact on the improvement and conservation of the Cape Woolamai foreshore," said Derek Hibbert, Environment/Coastal Officer with Bass Coast Shire Council.

Other activities that the group has been involved in include dune stabilisation, revegetation and control of environmental weeds.

"Apart from these important contributions, members of the group have also enjoyed working together while learning more about the fantastic local natural asset right at their doorstep," said Derek.

The group conducts six main weekend working bees and several smaller working bees each year. Most of the working bees take place on Saturday mornings, though some take place during the week. Anyone wishing to find out more about local Coast Action/Coastcare groups can contact Council on 5671 2211 or 5951 3311, or Coast Action/Coastcare on 9296 4532.
