Warragul Library Centre moves closer with early works starting ahead of major construction and 2028 openingEarly works for Warragul $30 million Library and Learning Centre will begin next week, preparing the site for construction. By news@gippsland - 11th September 2026 - Back to News A new contemporary Library and Learning Centre in Warragul is one step closer to being achieved with early works commencing on site as early as next week. Managed by Baw Baw Shire Council and Becon Constructions, early works will focus on establishing the construction site, installing temporary facilities and fencing, site preparation and investigations, ensuring measures are in place to protect the surrounding environment and neighbouring areas. 
The Culture and Connection Precinct will transform Warragul’s underused land into a vibrant community hub supporting connection, wellbeing, learning and civic pride This milestone marks the beginning of delivery of the $30 million community facility which will include a new community library, creative and cultural spaces, community meeting rooms, co-working spaces and a public terrace. Community facility beginsBaw Baw Shire Mayor Councillor Kate Wilson said this exciting step would be the first real visible change at the site. "After years of planning and advocacy, it is fantastic to see the site being activated in preparation for construction." "Council and the contractor are working closely to put the right measures in place to ensure the site is safe, well managed and respectful of neighbours, road users, pedestrians, environment and broader community. Early works will also ensure appropriate separation between construction activities and the surrounding community, while minimising impacts on the adjacent West Gippsland Arts Centre and Civic Park area", said the Mayor. Construction starts soonLocal residents and the broader community will be kept informed as the project progresses, including where site preparation works may result in temporary changes to access, traffic or other conditions around the area. Early works are expected to be completed towards the end of September, ahead of a sod-turning ceremony to formally mark the start of construction and celebrate the many partnerships and collaborations that have helped bring this project to life.
