Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester and The Nationals candidate for Gippsland East Gemma Rendell are supporting community efforts to build a new indoor recreation centre in Lakes Entrance. The pair have met with local residents and East Gippsland Shire Council, which is working on plans for a three-court stadium on the recreation precinct near the aquadome. The proposed stadium has already received an $800,000 grant for design work but requires approximately $15 million for capital works.

Celebrating rural women

Today is International Rural Women’s Day and an opportunity to recognise generations of women and girls who continue to make an enormous contribution to our communities. Throughout my career, I have been fortunate to work alongside hundreds of inspirational women who are making a difference at home, in their workplaces and throughout our community.

Over the past six months, I’ve supported Gemma Rendell in her efforts to become a next generation leader in our region as the new Member for Gippsland East. As a mother, school teacher and farmer, Gemma is exactly the type of person we should be celebrating as part of International Rural Women’s Day.

Backing rural women

And in Ms Rendell’s own words: "To the women who paved the way, those who inspire me, and those who will continue to break new ground, thank you. Rural women have long been the unsung heroes of agriculture. Our stories may all be different, but we share a bond that only those who live this life truly understand. To all the rural women out there, especially here in East Gippsland, I see you, I believe in you, and I’m cheering you on."

Looking forward to backing Gemma’s campaign in the lead up to the state election on November 28. Follow her on Facebook to keep up with her positive plans for East Gippsland.
