Latrobe Local News: ‘Senior Citizen of the Year’ nominations close next WednesdayLatrobe City has extended the call for nominations for its ‘Senior Citizen of the Year’ award until next Wednesday By Latrobe City Council - 5th March 2001 - Back to News Tell us your opinion See what others have said Latrobe City has extended the call for nominations for its ‘Senior Citizen of the Year’ award until next Wednesday, with Mayor Tony Hanning urging citizens to recognise the dedication and talents of the many senior citizens who benefit the Latrobe community.
"If you are aware of a senior citizen over 60 years of age, who is a resident in Latrobe City and has been active in the local community in a voluntary capacity over an extended period of time, please consider nominating them for this award," Cr Hanning requested.
"This will provide an opportunity for their efforts to be recognised by Council, their peers and the Latrobe community," Cr Hanning said.
"There are many senior citizens who provide voluntary service to the community, and as a special recognition of the vital contribution they make to our wellbeing, the municipality presents a ‘Senior Citizen of the Year’ award.
"Think about members of your family who are actively involved in things that benefit the community, or perhaps a neighbour, or someone you come into contact with at work. There are hundreds of potential recipients, the unsung heroes and heroines who dedicate years of their life in some cases, to voluntary work. This is your opportunity to have that dedication recognised, by nominating them," Cr Hanning urged.
The Senior Citizen of the Year award will be presented at a ceremony on Sunday 18 March as part of Latrobe’s Senior Citizens Week activities. Nominations close next Wednesday, 7 March.
Nomination forms can be obtained from Council’s Citizen Service Centres at Moe, Morwell and Traralgon, or nominations can be lodged by telephoning Latrobe City on 1300 367 700.
