Annual Women On Farms Gathering To Be Held In YarramA chance to come together to network, share experiences, learn new skills By DNRE - 3rd December 2002 - Back to News The 2003 Women on Farms Gathering is to be held in Yarram, in the beautiful Gippsland region of south east Victoria from March 28 to 30. The historic Regent Theatre in Commercial Road will be the main venue for the event, with bus tours and farm and historical walks organised around the local area over the three days.
These Gatherings have been an annual event in Victoria since 1990, when Warragul hosted the first opportunity for women on farms to come together to network, share experiences, learn new skills and undergo personal development and growth. They also provide an avenue to promote and acknowledge women’s contribution on the farm and in rural communities.
The Yarram Women on Farms group is organising the event and is promising some new and exciting workshops, walks, tours and treats for participants. From Financial Planning to Egyptian Belly Dancing, chainsaw operation to pizza making, the choice is stimulating and diverse.
A special feature at the Yarram Gathering will be the signing of an agreement between Museum Victoria and the Women on Farms Gathering Heritage Group. This is an important occasion which acknowledges the significance of the stories that emanate from rural women across Victoria . It is the first time that these stories have been acknowledged in this way.
The signing will take place on the Sunday morning, March 30. It is anticipated that a representative of each previous gathering will sign the agreement and all those attending will be invited to sign a scroll that will form part of the collection.
The Women on Farms Gathering is an important annual celebration and recognition of rural women’s lives and contributions. Gatherings are run by women for women to grow, learn, develop and enjoy the company of women and to celebrate and share the richness of their experiences.
Anyone interested in receiving further information about the Gathering next year, or a registration package, should contact Diane Hennig on 51 861220 or Merlyn Rendell on 51 861 373.
