Getting Out The Good News About Latrobe Michelle Edmunds, representative for CPR CPR Communications and Public Relations appointed to improve the profile of the Latrobe Region By Michelle Edmunds - 16th September 2002 - Back to News Leading national public relations firm CPR Communications and Public Relations has been appointed to improve the profile of the Latrobe Region in the Melbourne and national media.
During the 12-month project, CPR will work closely with local companies, the City of Latrobe and other major organisations to identify good news stories for distribution to metropolitan newspapers, radio stations and television networks.
CPR will report to the Victorian Government’s marketing advisory panel, appointed as part of the Latrobe Valley Ministerial Taskforce.
The PR strategy is part of the marketing campaign being developed by the Victorian Government in consultation with the City of Latrobe and local organisations to attract investment, business and jobs to the region.
Panel convener Richard Hancock, CEO of the City of Latrobe, said the public relations strategy was a response to research that showed negative opinions and perceptions of the region are blocking investment.
"We have got a lot of good news in the Valley. We have record level building permits, an AA credit rating and plans for private investment worth millions of dollars," Mr Hancock said.
"This is a good news story that has to be told, not just locally but in the media that reach potential investors."
The public relations contract was won in a publicly advertised competitive tender and will be funded by the State Government taskforce’s marketing budget.
Mr Hancock said he was also delighted that CPR was working with Monash Gippsland’s Churchill campus to develop a local student internship program to coincide with the university’s expanded PR program in 2003.
