Morwell Electorate Sporting Clubs Set to Kick Goals for HealthMore opportunities to get active and play sport with sporting clubs being funded. By Portal Admin - 1st July 2020 - Back to News Residents within the Morwell Electorate will have more opportunities to get active and play sport, with four local sporting clubs receiving funding to improve the health of the local community.
"I commend the Churchill Baseball Club, the Morwell Netball Association, Morwell Pegasus Soccer Club and the Southside Junior Football Club for submitting fantastic initiatives that will increase local sporting participation opportunities," Mr Northe said.
The clubs will share in almost $11,000 in Active Club Grants to deliver new sport programs including uniforms, injury prevention and equipment. With junior sport competitions soon to kick off and non-contact sport resuming for adults, many Victorians are wanting to get out and about and stay healthy and active again.
Member for Morwell Russell Northe said the funding will enable local sporting clubs to provide more opportunities for local residents to improve their health through playing sport. "Playing sport or being part of a sporting club or association is great for our physical and mental health, and is a great way to get involved with your local community, have fun and make new friends," Mr Northe said.
VicHealth CEO, Dr Sandro Demaio said Active Club Grants will support sporting clubs to encourage locals to enjoy better health through community sport. "As our daily lives and routines continue to change, it’s vital we continue to be physically active and socially connected, and joining a local sports club is a great place to start," Dr Demaio said.
"We know sports clubs are the heart and soul of their communities and we’ve heard from so many Victorians who’ve really missed playing the sport they love and seeing their team mates," Dr Demaio said.
Local clubs and associations funded within the Morwell Electorate include:
Churchill Baseball Club - $2964.90 – Introduction of a T-ball program to build the confidence fundamental skills of baseball in junior participants.
Morwell Netball Association - $3000.00 – Introduction of six new teams in the social female only competition including skills development for girls aged 6-9.
Morwell Pegasus Soccer Club - $1692.00 – Introduction of Victoria’s Soccer Mums program, a social initiative for mums.
Southside Junior Football Club - $3000.00 – Introduction of Girls Under 12’s Football team to provide an opportunity to for young girls without needing to play in mixed teams.
