Driver Rest StopA Driver Rest Stop will operate at the Wellington Visitor Information Centre in Sale until the end of the school holidays. By Wellington Shire Council - 12th January 2006 - Back to News The stop, sponsored by Wellington Shire Council, is a joint initiative between local road safety groups, police and the Visitor Information Centre.
Wellington Shire Council Mayor, Malcolm Hole said that it is hoped the stop will encourage safe driving.
"The stop will provide people travelling with the opportunity to have a break, enjoy a cup of tea and will reduce the risk of driver fatigue," he said.
The distance between Sale and Melbourne makes it a practical location to take a break
With Melbourne 2-3 hours away people are in need of a break from driving.
"A break helps drivers regain concentration when they resume their journey.
"We are trying to get the message across to motorists to stop and have a break in Wellington Shire," said Cr Hole.
"It will also give people a chance to learn more about the area and look at the attractions while they take a much needed rest", he said.
"We are determined to do all we can to minimise road accidents in the Wellington Shire in 2006", said Cr Hole.
