By Bass Coast Shire Council - 24th August 2005 - Back to News

Community members and groups will have an opportunity to be involved in every Bass Coast Games activity, including sport, art, writing, celebratory, community and social events.

Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Allan Bawden, says this is the most comprehensive program of community events ever undertaken by Council.

"Council applied for and received about $70,000 in grants as part of the Melbourne 2006 Get Involved Program to run the series of Bass Coast Games events.

"It’s exciting to see such a broad range of activities that will give every single member of the Bass Coast community an opportunity to be involved," he said.

Some of the activities to be held in the Shire over the next seven months include:

  • Official Launch of Bass Coast Shire Games activities
  • Bass Coast Baton Relay
  • Arts Aware Travelling Exhibition and Writing Competition
  • Sporting Expo – To Participate is Great
  • Queen’s Baton Relay
  • Opening Ceremony Celebrations

Mr Bawden encouraged the Bass Coast community to get involved and make these events the most participated in the Shire’s history.

"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to come together as one community and celebrate this remarkable event.

"Council is holding a number of community forums in September and I strongly encourage anyone wanting to participate in the Shire’s Games activities to come along," said Mr Bawden.

Community Forums will be held at the following times:

  • Kernot Hall at 1.30pm, Monday 5 September
  • Wonthaggi Town Hall at 6.30pm, Monday 5 September
  • Inverloch Community Centre at 6.30pm, Wednesday 7 September
  • Cowes Cultural Centre at 6.30pm, Thursday 8 September
  • Bass Hall at 6.30pm, Friday 9 September
