Melbourne Heart Returns To Latrobe City For A-League Fixture

Melbourne Heart FC will return to Latrobe City, its home away from home, after Football Federation Australia announced Latrobe City will host Melbourne Hearts FC Hyundai A-league regional fixture on Thursday.

Latrobe City will host Melbourne Heart FC and New Zealand based team Wellington Phoenix in a regional round on Sunday 4 December 2011 at the Latrobe City Sports and Entertainment Stadium.

The regional matches are a new initiative for the Hyundai A-League 2011/12 season, as Football Federation Australia aims to broaden community visibility, engagement and to give more parts of regional of Australia a taste of live Hyundai A-League action.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Darrell White, welcomed the announcement on Thursday saying that the news would be well received not just by the soccer community but the community in general.

"This is exciting news for sports fans in the region and a great opportunity for our local sports clubs and budding young athletes to once again see some of our Australian soccer stars in action.

"We have hosted Melbourne Heart FC for their past two Westpac Community Football Festivals and they have been a huge success and certainly injected an enormous amount of positive energy into the local soccer fraternity. We’re extremely excited to once again be hosting such a fantastic sporting event here in Latrobe City. The event will showcase our high class sporting facilities and again put the city on the national and international stage with a live broadcast on Fox Sports," Cr White said.

Heart Chief Executive Officer Scott Munn revealed the Club is delighted to be bringing the Hyundai A-League back to Latrobe City.

"The success of the past two Westpac Community Football Festivals in Latrobe City proved without doubt that the region is all heart. We look forward to renewing our relationship with the region during December event, which once again promises to be a wonderful celebration of football in an area renowned for its rich round ball history,

"Through our partnership with Latrobe City Council, the Club is delighted to return to the region and play host the Wellington Phoenix in our elected regional fixture at the Latrobe City Sports and Entertainment Stadium," Mr Munn concluded.
