Nationals Member for Morwell Russell Northe said both UnitingCare Gippsland and Berry Street’s programs have been allocated funding to assist them with providing more opportunities for young people to volunteer, explore education and employment pathways, and increase connections with their community and family.

"It is just fantastic that we have two of our own organisations rewarded through this program, and I commend the staff and volunteers for taking the time to submit an application, as this will surely benefit our youth who are in need of extra support."

UnitingCare Gippsland received $105,000 for their program, Engage! Latrobe which supports young people all across Latrobe City through programs such as creative arts and support groups to help them develop their skills and confidence while strengthening their engagement with peers, family and the wider community.

Berry Street Victoria received $120,000 for the Latrobe Engage! Program, which will support young people in the Latrobe Valley to explore their goals and aspirations through skill development, peer-mentoring, youth-led community celebrations and social engagement and empower them to increase their capacities to engage within their communities.

"The Coalition Government is committed to supporting organisations that improve lives and opportunities for young Victorians, and this funding will support projects that strengthen community partnerships and create opportunities for young people to become active and engaged," Mr Northe said

"Engage! aims to support programs that offer opportunities for young people to volunteer, participate in mentoring, receive study and career advice, and gain practical skills and training and increased connections with their community."

"Thank you to the countless volunteers and staff at community organisations and local governments in the Latrobe Valley that make these programs so successful. There is immense value in your work and the important role you play in the development of youth across our region," Mr Northe said.
