Community and Economic Development Manager, Steven Piasente, said the awards highlighted some personal and team achievements for Council staff.

"Our Tourism Manager, Ken Hore, received the Award for Outstanding Contribution by an Individual," explained Mr Piasente.

"This is a significant and well deserved achievement and recognises the extraordinary personal and professional achievement and contribution Ken has made over many years to the Australian, and particularly the Victorian tourism industry. He is a valuable member of our staff and his enthusiasm and passion for tourism has benefited our local tourism industry enormously."

Mr Piasente congratulated the two Bass Coast businesses that picked up awards on the night - the Rhyll Trout and Bush Tucker Farm and RACV Inverloch Resort.

"These awards show that our local operators offer tourism experiences that are among the best in Victoria," said Mr Piasente.

"The Rhyll Trout and Bush Tucker Farm was a winner at the Bass Coast and Gippsland business awards earlier this year, so our local awards are really highlighting what our tourism industry is doing well."

Mr Piasente said it was exciting to see five other Bass Coast tourism services named as finalists at the Victorian awards.

"Two of the finalists at the Tourism Awards - Silverwater Resort and Maru Koala and Animal Park - have also enjoyed success at the Bass Coast and Gippsland Business Awards," said Mr Piasente.

"Our Economic Development team work closely with local businesses, to support them and help them improve their operations. Our business awards are more than just celebrating achievements. Putting together an entry gives a business the opportunity to review their planning and operations. A local award also provides substantial marketing and promotion for the winners."

Council’s Economic Development Manager, Peter Francis, said his team were thrilled with the result.

"We are delighted that local businesses are recognising the value of participating in business and tourism awards. To be a great tourism attraction, first and foremost you need to be a good business. You achieve this by regular business reviews, training, innovation and sound business practices. We believe our awards give businesses the opportunity to review and reflect on what they do, as well as providing a stepping stone for local business to enter regional, state and national awards, " said Mr Francis.

The Economic Development team provides support to local businesses through skill development, training, mentoring and networking initiatives. In the past year, this has included a Business Development Program and workshops on steps to achieve your business goal, marketing on a budget and web works for small businesses.
