Pedestrians Vote With Their Feet On Footpath Changes Pedestrians appear to have voted with their feet when it comes to pedestrian and traffic safety works recently undertaken at the corner of Bridle Road and the Princes Drive service road in Morwell. By Latrobe City Council - 30th April 2009 - Back to News Latrobe City councillor, Cr Graeme Middlemiss, said an evaluation of pedestrian use since the works were undertaken, indicated increasing numbers of pedestrians were taking advantage of the new footpath and crossing.
"New footpath was constructed along a section of Bridle Road from the Princes Drive Service Road to the Mail Centre, as well as a section of new path along the service road," Cr Middlemiss explained.
"Prior to the works, pedestrians were frequently observed stepping off the nature strip onto the road, especially if the grass was wet or muddy, thus putting their safety in jeopardy.
"Not only is the new footpath encouraging safer walking to the Australia Post mail centre and the Italian Australian Club by providing an all weather surface, but the project included the creation of a clearly defined pedestrian crossing point over Bridle Road.
"Structural alterations to the angle of the filter turn from Bridle Road into the Princes Drive service road have also helped slow vehicles approaching the intersection, creating a safer environment for those attempting to cross Bridle Road on foot," Cr Middlemiss added.
