A thumbs-up for the council’s Building Service

Wellington Shire Council has just published the results of a questionnaire conducted with users of its Building Service which reveals a very high level of customer satisfaction with the operation.

By Wellington Shire Council - 18th August 2004 - Back to News

Those targeted with questionnaires earlier in the year were from the building industry as well as property owners – many having made enquiries or applications about building permits, farm shed exemptions, fence building or illegal building works for example.

Over 92% (92.6%) rated the overall quality of service provided by the council’s building officers as ‘good’ to ‘excellent’.

More than 80% (81.48%) of applicants rated the content and quality of initial enquiry information as ‘good’ or ‘excellent’, while in excess of 90% (92.59%) had a ‘good’ to ‘excellent’ understanding of information provided to them.

Over 80% were ‘satisfied’ to ‘extremely satisfied’ with the time taken to process their application and approaching 60% agreed with the conditions imposed.

Looking to build on these very encouraging results, the council is committed over the coming years to continuously improve, where possible, its well-established information service and comprehensive training of staff. Already there are plans to increase publicity promoting the availability of building staff to deal direct with customers over their enquiries and to spend more time with those who do not have a clear understanding of their legal rights and responsibilities when undertaking building work.

Said Wellington’s Chief Executive Officer Lyndon Webb: "The results of the questionnaire make very encouraging reading and owe much to the hard work and dedication of all those council staff involved with the Building Service. It’s also great to see a commitment to continuously improve what is already a high quality operation."
