Business Succession Planning WorkshopA workshop designed to assist those in business or just starting out to be more informed about successful business succession planning will be conducted by Latrobe City By Latrobe City - 23rd October 2007 - Back to News Council on Tuesday 30 October at the civic precinct in Kay Street, Traralgon.
Latrobe City senior business development officer, Leo Billington, said that this eagerly awaited workshop is designed to make people aware about some of the vital issues surrounding business succession planning.
"The workshop format will include a panel of four locally-based professionals covering banking, real estate, business law and financial planning. Each panellist will provide a short summary of key considerations relevant to their area of expertise which will be followed by question time. Those in attendance will be encouraged to ask as many questions as deemed appropriate to particular business and personal circumstances," Mr Billington explained.
"Succession planning is not usually seen as important, at least in the formative years of many businesses. Perhaps, when a business is expanding, time is given to thinking about it. Then there are those who have an aversion to the whole idea of planning for the future life of their business," Mr Billington said.
"However there are many good reasons why business succession planning is important. It helps develop a shared vision for the future of any business, allowing for new projects and interests to be pursued. There are many examples of where effective succession planning gives people a chance to retire to something else rather than retire from something," Mr Billington added.
"This workshop concludes a successful phase during which a series of workshops have provided advice on succession planning matters such as delegation of responsibilities, work-life balance, financial matters, debt, marketing and disengaging from work.
The workshop is funded by the Commonwealth Government Building Entrepreneurship in Small Business program. Latrobe City Council’s Economic Development Division was successful in achieving funding earlier this year for a succession planning project which is now ending its first phase. The second phase is planned to begin early in December.
The Legal Issues and Funding Your Succession Plan workshop commences at 6pm on Tuesday, 30 October, and is expected to finish at 8.30 pm. The cost for this workshop is $15 to cover refreshments.
Bookings are essential. For further information, please contact Leo Billington, telephone (m) 0407 541 258 or Robyn Neeson on 9571 5188.
