Latrobe City Council’s mayor, Councillor Kellie O’Callaghan, said sports fans would relish the chance to watch the match.

"Our community has an unending capacity to support elite sporting fixtures and we are excited to welcome the W-League players to our region. It won’t just be up and coming soccer stars that will pack the stands, but sports lovers in general. And for our local female athletes, what better inspiration than watching the game’s top players battle it out?

"We’re also pleased that some of the players will engage with our school students at clinics and share their advice on improving skills to become a great player. Hosting clinics like these provides our local children with the opportunity to dream big," Cr O’Callaghan said.

"We are very much looking forward to our spring and summer of sports. We are hosting an overnight leg of the Tour of Gippsland later this month and Big Bash Cricket in December. The investment through the State Government’s Latrobe Valley Sports and Community Initiative provides economic and social benefits to our community and helps reaffirm our already strong reputation as a regional venue for elite sporting events.

The W-League game will be held on Saturday 21 October at the Latrobe City Sports and Entertainment Stadium in Morwell. Kick off is at 2.30pm. Entry is free.
