Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Ed Vermeulen said that Minister Ferguson was keen to return to the Valley following his last visit in February.

"Minister Ferguson flagged a return visit to Latrobe City Council at the conclusion of the joint Ministerial announcement of the $100M Carbon Capture and Storage funding in February.

"Of course, we are very happy to welcome him back to continue to engage in productive dialogue and to advocate directly to the Australian Government about our region’s transition to a Low Carbon Future," Cr Vermeulen said.

"Minister Ferguson met with those Councillors sitting on Latrobe City Council’s Low Carbon Transition Committee and me to discuss the progress of the Committee’s efforts.

"Following this, a second meeting was held involving all Councillors. A range of issues were discussed, including the recent funding for CCS, the progression of the Contract for Closure, and Council’s request for federal funding for two Carbon Assist Officers," Cr Vermeulen said.

"The meetings signalled that we continue a strong and valuable working relationship between Latrobe City Council and the Minister’s office. Meetings such as these are very important in helping Latrobe City Council properly articulate its concerns to the Australian Government and advocate on behalf of our community and our future," Cr Vermeulen concluded.
