Bass Coast Shire Council officers last week met with representatives from Synergy Wind who intend to lodge a planning application to build a windfarm in St Clair.

Planning and Environment Director, Hannah Duncan-Jones said the company has identified a farm at St Clair between Wonthaggi and Wattlebank.

"At the meeting it was confirmed that the wind farm would generate up to 30 megawatts," said Ms Duncan-Jones.

"We expect there would be 10 to 15 turbines to generate this amount of electricity.

"Synergy Wind plans to lodge their planning permit application in early 2011.

"Synergy has made a commitment to run workshops to inform the community about the proposed windfarm and to listen to community feedback," said Ms Duncan-Jones.

Once an application is received there will be a formal opportunity for the community to respond to the proposal.

More information is available on Synergy Wind’s website at www.synergy-wind.com.

Workshops will be held in early 2011 and will be advertised in local papers and on Council’s website.
