Building a Safer, More Reliable Hyland HighwayProviding motorists with a safer and more reliable journey with 20 kilometres of the Hyland Highway. By Portal Admin - 8th July 2018 - Back to News Improvements on approximately 20 kilometres of the Hyland Highway between Flynns Creek Road and Carrajung-Woodside Road are complete, providing motorists with a safer and more reliable journey in this area of Gippsland.
The improvement works have included intersection upgrades at Flynns Creek Road and Rosedale-Flynns Creek Road, shoulder construction and sealing, installation of safety guard rails, pull over areas, line marking and signage.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure and Transport, Michael McCormack, said the $10 million upgrade was jointly funded by the Australian and Victorian Governments.
"This project is another demonstration of the Australian Government’s commitment to upgrading key regional roads right around the country to help ensure people get home sooner and safer," Mr McCormack said.
Victorian Minister for Roads and Road Safety Luke Donnellan said the Hyland Highway is a key route for the freight industry and tourists heading to the Ninety Mile Beach area.
"We’re getting it done – delivering a safer and smoother journey for locals, visitors and truckies on the Hyland Highway", Mr Donnellan said.
The Nationals’ Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the highway upgrade would improve safety for locals commuting to the Latrobe Valley and enhance transport efficiency for local producers.
"The upgrade will also make South Gippsland more attractive to visitors interested in touring through this picturesque region to enjoy its natural beauty and towns - and that will benefit all of us," Mr Chester said.
State Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said intersection improvements were also planned at Grand Ridge Road and Carrajung-Woodside Road as part of the project.
"Once this full package of works is done, drivers will benefit from new safety barriers, line marking, turning lanes, improved sight distance and widening of the shoulders and roads," Ms Shing said.
Concept plans for the intersection upgrades are currently in development and will be shared with stakeholders, abutting landholders and the wider community over the coming months.
Work on the intersections will commence in early 2019 and are expected to be complete in mid-2020.
