Bushfire Recovery Bounty Collections Officers from the Department of Primary Industries will be collecting fox scalps and wild dog skin pieces from 9.30am to 11.30am on Thursday the 24th of May 2007 at Lindenow Road, Bairnsdale, for the Bushfire Recovery Fox and Wild Dog Bounty. By Department of Primary Industries - 24th May 2007 - Back to News The bounty is one part of an integrated approach to effective pest animal control in Victoria.
"Co-ordinated pest control by groups of neighbouring landholders using baiting programs and den fumigation and destruction, combined with shooting, is the best method of achieving a sustained reduction in fox numbers," said DPI Pest Animals Program Manager, Brett Harrison.
"Effective wild dog control requires a partnership between Government and the community. Baiting, trapping, exclusion fencing and good livestock husbandry are needed in the effort to minimise the impact of wild dogs on farm families," said DPI Pest Animals Program Manager, Brett Harrison.
"Victoria has a planned approach to wild dog control that has been developed in partnership with the North east and Gippsland Wild Dog Management Groups," Mr Harrison added.
Fox tails will not be accepted as part of the bounty program and public counters in DPI offices would not act as drop-off points for bounty collection.
"Claimants must present only frozen, freshly skinned or air dried material for payment. Putrid or fly blown material will not be accepted," Mr Harrison said.
"All claimants will also be required to sign a declaration stating that they ‘shot’ the animals in Victoria," he said.
The depots indicated on the Collection Schedule will only accept bounty applications at the designated collection times.
The Collection Schedule is available from the Bushfire Recovery Fox and Wild Dog Bounty Program website at www.dpi.vic.gov.au/bounty07.
DPI strongly advises hunters to visit the website and read to the detailed description of the Wild Dog Control Areas and other conditions of the bounty or call the Customer Service Centre on 136 186, prior to hunting foxes or wild dogs for bounty payment.
