The final countdown to Australia Day is on and Wellington Shire Council is encouraging all residents to be publicly proud of what our nation has achieved this Australia Day by attending celebrations around the Shire.

Flag-raising ceremonies, sing-a-longs and BBQs are being held in Wellington towns to mark the day, which will also see the presentation of Shire-wide and local Australia Day Awards-acknowledging the outstanding service and contributions provided by local individuals and community focused organisations.

Said Wellington’s Mayor John Jago: "As Australia Day approaches we begin to look at the great values that we all share as Australian citizens – including the sense of unity that brings us together regardless of our origin or background. Australia’s respect for cultural diversity and its democratic and free way of life is something that we should all be proud of and celebrate.

"We are delighted to be able to support events being held around the Shire."

A complete list of events being held in the Shire can be found on the Council’s website at www.wellington.vic.gov.au and details are also available by telephoning 1300 366 244.
