provided through other charities, locals are reminded that donations to the Gippsland Emergency Relief Fund (GERF) will directly help residents in our local community.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Lisa Price, said that whilst the statewide appeal will raise millions of dollars to help those affected by the tragedy across Victoria, every cent raised by GERF will help families in Gippsland.

"The GERF has been established for ten years and aids in the recovery process for victims of fire, flood and other disasters in the region. Cash donations to this fund will go only to those families living in Gippsland.

"For the many residents who feel helpless as they watch the news footage or listen to the heartbreaking stories on the radio, a contribution to GERF would be a direct way of helping our own community during this difficult process of recovery," Cr Price said.

"Latrobe City has been inundated with offers of goods and services from those wanting to help in some way and although the generosity of some of these offers has been outstanding, it is simply impractical at this stage to accept donations of anything other than cash. Our resources at this stage are still very much working on the response and recovery phase and so we do ask that residents be mindful of that and make their contributions to the GERF," Cr Price concluded.
