Morwell Centre For Multicultural Youth To Continue Important Work Under A Re-Elected Coalition Government

The Member For Morwell Russell Northe Has Welcomed The Coalition’S Commitment To Reaffirm Its Partnership With The Morwell Centre For Multicultural Youth And Other Regional Sites With $1.3 Million Of Funding Over The Next Four Years.

By Russell North - 19th November 2014 - Back to News

Mr Northe said the centre played an important role in the community which was established under the Coalition Government in 2012. "Having had my latest visit to the centre just last week and chatting to staff it is clear the ongoing role the centre plays in supporting our multicultural youth through employment programs and other engagement activities," Mr Northe said. "The centre has established itself as a hub for Latrobe Valley’s multicultural communities, which includes people with Sudanese and Eastern European backgrounds and we want to ensure the gains that have already been achieved continue to have a positive effect. "If re-elected this funding will provide assurance for the centre so that they can continue to develop and deliver programs that make a real difference to the lives of those who might not otherwise get the opportunities they need to thrive." The commitment also includes funding for bi-cultural youth workers to provide a one stop shop to assist young Victorians from disadvantaged CALD backgrounds. The Napthine Government strongly believes in the importance of a cohesive, multicultural society, where all people are treated equally, regardless of their cultural or religious background while at the same time, encouraging all people to share a commitment to Australia, its democratic institutions and the rule of law. This election commitment is in addition to the $158,000 provided annually to the Centre of Multicultural Youth to support core activities.
