Shire Reminds That Building Permits Still Required

State Government changes to Victoria's planning permit system being considered by the State Minister for Planning do not negate requirements for obtaining building permits, according to East Gippsland Shire Council.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 22nd May 2006 - Back to News

Municipal building Surveyor Leigh Collings said that under the changes homeowners may still require a building permit for home improvement projects including decks, pergolas, sheds and swimming pools.

"Building permit requirements for Victorian homeowners remain unchanged," he said.

"While the planning permit system has been streamlined in Victoria, home owners should be careful not to confuse these changes with continuing requirements for building permits. "

Mr Collings said that before starting any building project homeowners are advised to check with a building surveyor or the Council to determine whether a building permit is required for a specific project.
