Victorian Planning Scheme Review Victorian Planning Scheme Review Have you ever wanted to have a say in the way the Victorian planning system works? Public submissions on ways to improve the Victorian planning system are being accepted up to 31 August. By Bass Coast - 22nd August 2011 - Back to News Bass Coast Shire Council Planning and Environment Director, Hannah Duncan-Jones, said a Victorian Planning System Ministerial Advisory Committee will conduct an extensive review looking at the Victorian planning provisions, planning schemes and the planning system generally.
"The current planning process can be complex for anyone who has had to navigate through requirements of the current planning system," said Ms Duncan-Jones.
"The Committee have not ruled anything out, so there is a genuine opportunity to redesign the system to achieve the best outcomes for all participants.
There are seven questions for people to consider in their submission and guidelines are on the Department of Planning and Community Development website at http://www.dpcd.vic.gov.au/planning/panelsandcommittees/current-planning-panels-and-committees/victorianplanningsystemadvisorycommittee
Mayor, Cr Veronica Dowman, said that participating in this review is an opportunity to ensure that the Victorian Planning System better reflects the interests of local communities.
"Local government has a job to do to make sure that we protect community amenity while allowing appropriate development to take place.
"Council will be sending in its own submission with suggestions for making the system less complex for all parties, "explained Cr Dowman.
"The planning system is important and when it is not working effectively this can have impacts across the community.
"So I encourage you to visit the Department of Planning and Community Development website now to make a submission."
